Glamping Along

Rock Cut State Park is a hop, skip and a jump from our home in Beloit, Wisconsin. Lon and I jumped into our truck, pointed it south, skipped town, hopped the state line into Illinois and in a total of twenty minutes were there. For a weekend getaway, this park is the perfect place to pull our camping trailer.

We enjoyed tent camping for a few years but gave it up when we got tired of all the work involved and realized there were other options. We picked out a nice pop-up trailer which got us up off the ground and solved many of our previous complaints. For several years, we spent every other weekend during the spring, summer and fall months in a number of state parks in southern Wisconsin in our pop-up.

A winter outing to a trailer show enticed us to make camping easier yet. Our present trailer will definitely be our final RV. My fellow blogger in London informed me that what we’re doing is called glamping in Europe. I have to agree with Lia that we’re indeed glamourous camping or glamping. If at some point we’re not happy in our 26 foot rig, we’ll stay home.

We prefer state parks over private ones, although Door County’s Wagon Trail Campground is exceptional. The majority of private parks we’ve explored offer small sites with no privacy. I can barely stand to drive through them, let alone spend any length of time in one.

We relaxed away from our normal responsibilities this past weekend at Rock Cut State Park, even though the time went too fast. Squeezing one more day into our getaways is a definite must in the future. The temperature stayed between 75 and 80 degrees during the day and quite a bit cooler at night, great for sleeping. Our neighbors were friendly and quiet which contributed much to our pleasant experience. I somehow survived without an internet connection. The initial withdrawal symptoms hit me hard but I managed to survive the trauma and gradually adjusted to the unusual sense of freedom that filled the void.

Lon bought a one-day Illinois fishing license but caught only one large mouth bass. While he was fishing I took a nice long walk, did some writing and reading. We rented two kayaks for an hour and paddled along the shore line of the small lake within the park. Our efforts benefited us with a good upper body workout and a different perspective of the park.

Upcoming posts will include my final photos of our resident robins and photos taken on a bike ride I took Sunday afternoon, after we returned home.

Nice photos, Shaddy, and unusual results when one double clicks on them. Looks like glamping agrees with you.

You are most certainly a Glamper now, which seems to agree with you very very much. Sounds like you two had a great time and although I am battling the weather over here (the jet stream is in the wrong place see my rant about it on my blog), you have made me rather excited about my up coming trip. Am worried about internet withdrawal more than the weather lol.

The park you went to looks so lovely, we are off to Wales and I am hoping our camp site is as good as yours. We haven't been there before and are joining a big group of friends, but did not organize this gathering, then for the last weekend we will be heading even furthe into Wales, to spend the last weekend with a good friend and his family.

Looking at the weather I feel it won't be long before I want a trailer, then I to can be a professional glamper like you.
Much love
Lia xx

The picture of the kayaks is absolutely perfect!!! WOW!!! I love it. I love Rock Cut, it's so pretty there.

It sounds like a successful relaxing weekend my dear. You make me want to escape to a campground instead of our usual hotels. But we're still tent campers and I just don't have the energy right now. So! I'll have to send you off glamping and camp via your writing. I love this post Shaddy. I love how you're writing takes me out of my own brain and to other places. It helps me so much. SO much. And I love you for it.
xoxo,
Sarie

Gully: Thanx.
Lia: It sounds like you have lots of fun ahead of you. I sure hope the weather cooperates. When bad weather is an issue, a trailer is definitely appreciated. I bet you'll find things to do and enjoy yourself no matter what. I'd love to see pictures if you care to take some and post them. As you can see, I'm spreading the term "glamping" around the U.S. You're a clever bunch across the pond.
I'll have to read your blog at home. I'm at work now and with the background music that comes on when I visit your blog, it's obvious to the good doctor that I'm not focusing on dental issues. I turned the volume down one day and then when the dentist wanted to look at a video online, he couldn't hear it. He looked at me and I shrugged. Huh, I wonder what happened to the volume!!?? It'll be good for you to get away from your online activities for a while; really. There actually is life away from computers. You'll have lots to write about too.
Sarie: I love writing because I know you're going to enjoy reading the words I put down. We've got a win-win situation here which benefits both of us. What a team!!
Enjoy your Tuesday, Sarie.
