Pedaling Along The Sugar River Trail

We loaded our bikes on the back of the Avalanche late this morning and drove to the Sugar River Trail in Brodhead, Wisconsin. The trail is where an old railroad used to run. From Brodhead to the other end of the trail in New Glarus is a stretch of twenty-three miles.
*
The sights we observed along the way are self-explanatory except perhaps for the hole in the ground. Gophers ran in and out of their holes all along the trail but they were way too quick for me to catch with my camera, thus the gopher hole entrance photo.
*
After we returned to the truck and loaded the bikes back on, we headed back to Beloit. Before we got out of Brodhead, we were tempted by a roadside stand with sweet corn, apples, squash, watermelon and more for sale. Sweet corn and a watermelon were our choices.
*
The cute little log cabin across the highway advertised coffee, tea, smoothies and Chicago-style hot dogs for sale.
*
In summary of our day, the bike ride started out with cool temperatures but soon we and the air warmed up and the day was ideal for a ride. I didn't stop too many times and for too long for photos because the mosquitos were hungry today. As I look back on their interference, I thank the mosquitos for limiting my picture taking. You know how I normally get carried away.
*
I hope you enjoyed your day as well.

I find that wooden bridge to be so romantic!
I'm glad we don't have much mosquitoes here...when I see god one day, I want to find out why God created them for?! Thank you so much for your kind words...made me so very happy!

Auntie remembers years ago when you and Lon took the ride to Brodhead and stopped by our place which was just a short distance from trail and bridge, in fact I have pictures of your Mom and Dad and all of us at the bridge. our pics brought back fond memories.

Lenore: Life in the summer would be much more pleasant without those darn mosquitos. I'm scratching several places on my arms and back where they bit me yesterday. Lon and I both failed to bring along repellent, a big mistake. Thanks for commenting.

Auntie: I thought of you and Allen when we crossed Golf Course Road. Actually, I started thinking of you as soon as we saw signs for Brodhead. You had a beautiful place on the river. I remember riding from the trail to your home as you mentioned in your comment. We had many fun times on the pontoon boat and in the house and yard.

Boy do I know about mosquittos - really big mosquitos.

It looks like it was a beautiful ride. I am so happy that you are able to get out and do this so often. You are so fortunate to be surrounded by such great places too. It is way to hot down here right now for outdoor activities. (Summer is for not for us older gals.) But soon the August weather will give way to cooler temps -- high 80's.

We should have a wonderful view of the shuttle launch tonight. But don't forget the Pterodactyl spray!

darksculptures: I hope the weather cools down soon so you can enjoy some outdoor activities.
Enjoy the shuttle launch. Sheesh, your mosquitos must be wickedly huge if you call the repellant, Pterodactyl spray!

How I long for a day spent in nature!! These photos are just beautiful and you are so fit!!! Makes me feel ashamed of myself, I have to start with my pilates, soon!!! I wish I had some Wisconsin watermelons right now, my husband who is originaly from WI, would not eat any other!

Tina: The funny thing about the watermelon is that instead of red inside, it's a peach color but tastes exactly like normal watermelon. I had to look twice when I cut it in half. My husband can't quite get past the unusual color to eat much of it but I don't have a problem with it. It's strange though. Have you ever heard of such a thing as peach colored watermelon?
