Valentine's Day

My mother was born on Valentine's Day in 1919. For as long as I can remember, we enjoyed Valentine's Day by celebrating her birthday.

Now that Mom's not with us (she died in 2007), I don't know what to do with this day. Perhaps, the best ***************thing I can possibly do today is exactly what I've been doing for the past two years on February 14th. I'll spend the day reviving the wonderful and innumerable memories I have of my mother.

Fortunately for me, my husband treats me with tender loving care every day of the year. I don't have to wait for Valentine's Day to receive assurance of his feelings.

(Several years ago, I gave Mom the angel figurine pictured above. Now it sits on my shelf, a concrete symbol of my feelings for her).

AUNTIE also has some wonderful memories that I relive often and especially today. I always find myself thinking when I get some news, I will have to call Kay and tell her. I shake myself and realize I will tell her in other way. It is great to have nice memories, is'nt?.

Auntie: Memories are fine treasures, indeed. I do the same thing as you when I hear news about family members. I want to share it with Mom and when I can't, it hurts a little bit. She was ALWAYS available and eager to listen. She always cared deeply about her entire family and Dad's, not to mention friends and neighbors.

We are among the blessed to have had a wonderful relationship with our mothers. There are so many who did not have that closeness or those positive memories you write of. I miss the interaction with my mom. Its pretty one sided these days with Alzheimers. But she is healthy and seemingly happy, and I am thankful for that. Happy Valentine's Day to you Shaddy!

Parrot: We are fortunate, indeed. Happy Valentine's Day to you, as well.

Oh you what are you like, thank you for bigging me up, your such a sweet heart.
I lost my mum in 1995, never had a good relationship with her. Funny thing is I think I talk to her more now than I did when she was alive, we certainly get on better.
I do miss her though despite the difficulties, but like I say to people time is not the healer everyone tells us it is, all it really does is just teach us to except what has happened and learn to live with it and find other ways of coping.
Much love to you.

My best friend lost her mother on Valentine's day a few years ago and they haven't been the same for any of us since. Maybe we'll try to take a page from your journal and celebrate our loving memories instead of feeling sad.
Thanks and Happy Valentine's Day.

You always impress me with your ability to come away with good thoughts and memories, when most would see the glass as half empty instead of full. I hope you had a wonderful Valentines embraced by the loving memories of your mother.

dayner: It's hard to bring up old memories and not feel at least a bit sad. If we focus on good memories we can laugh as well.

darksculptures: I hope you had a wonderful day also.
