Humming "Great is Thy Faithfulness"

Probably over ten years ago, a friend of mine and I sang this song while we were doing dishes on vacation in a cabin in northern Minnesota. Ever since that day, nearly everyday, I find myself humming Great is Thy Faithfulness. I'm often unaware that I'm humming it until Lon smiles at me without saying anything. Immediately, I realize the reason. I like to regard my humming as assurance that the Holy Spirit is ever-present in my life.

GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;

There is no shadow of turning with Thee;

Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;

As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

Summer and winter, springtime and harvest,

Sun, moon and stars in their courses above

Join with all nature in manifold witness

To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth

Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;

Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,

Blessings all mine with ten thousand beside!

Chorus:

Great is Thy faithfulness!

Great is Thy faithfulness!

Morning by morning new mercies I see.

All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;

Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

The picture above is CHRIST IN THE STORM ON THE SEA OF GALILEE just before he calms the sea. This work of art is at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston. I have a Rembrandt Edition of the Holy Bible with a copy of that work of art within it. I used my camera to take a picture of the Rembrandt painting in that Bible to post here.

As much as I love the more contemporary christian songs, I do miss some of the "oldies". I still remember making requests as a child for my favorite "I'll Fly Away"!

Something about them makes them last over time and through the generations. My kids still sing many of the songs my grandmother loves :)

Lovely post, Shaddy. It was just the reassurance I needed this morning.

It must be the southern girl in my, but I find myself singing Amazing Grace while doing just about anything. My neighbors must think it is the only song I know.

Lenore: Some of the old hymns are amazing. I love to sing them. Being your friend is my pleasure.

Vanessa: Because of my age, I'm hooked on the older hymns. I enjoy some of the more contemporary Christian songs but like I said, I'm old and set in my ways!!

"I'll Fly Away" is wonderful.

Thanks for commenting today, Vanessa.

darksculptures: "Amazing Grace" is another of my favorites. Actually, I have lots and lots of favorite hymns. I'm glad this post gave you a boost.

Adecaleb: Thank you for visiting my blog. I love it.

There's nothing like being in a church and singing these songs that have been around for ages.
