Time Wears Running Shoes

Where's the month going?

Do you feel as those the days are passing much too quickly? Nineteen days have snuck by me. Today, I'm hanging on to May 20th with all my strength, hoping if I pay more attention to her, she'll not flee before I've had a chance to appreciate her.

How will I hold on to her? Here's my plan. Consider this with me, please. Who doesn't pause and glow when noticed? I'll sit still on the deck on the back of my house during my lunch hour. I'll savor the warmth of the air and the sounds of the birds. I'll notice the many shades of green leaves on the trees and bushes that quietly reside in our yard.

Again, at the end of the day, I'll return to my bench on the deck. I'll taste each bite of my dinner and sip from a glass of wine while the evening hours and I stretch and yawn our way toward dusk.

That's how I'll attempt to toss a lasso around the "y" in May and prevent her from scampering out of sight before I've spent quality time with her. I wish I'd been more attentive to "M" and "a" but they've come and gone while I was rushing from one thing seemingly important thing to another.

Do you take time to acknowledge the days that each month brings in her satchel? June, July, August, September, October, November and December are lined up just beyond the horizon. Can we afford to view the attributes of these months with only our peripheral vision or would we be wiser to sit down with each one and look her full in the face?

Let's do it. Let's sit down with time and convince her to slip off her running shoes.

Shaddy: Two things.

1. What a beautiful back yard!
2. What an imaginative post!

But, rather than rue the fleeting May, think of the wonder June has to offer.

Oh yes, I am all for sipping a glass of spirited juice, slipping off the running shoes, and deeply breathing in the scent of May before she slips out of sight. May I join you in your beautiful backyard?

Annie: Please do, Annie. I'll save some spirited juice for you.
