All Those Years, Where'd They Go?

My husband, Lon, and I celebrate our 41st wedding anniversary today. We don't have a clue as to where all those years went. We've looked in the back of our closets, in the basement, in the attic and even deep into all of our drawers. Alas, they've left us forever but within ourselves we've memories that indelibly mark the passing of the years of our life together.

I could ask our son, Jared, if he's any idea of where those 41 years might have gathered and settled. He can't help us with anything related to the first nine years of our marriage and he'll probably think I'm nuts if I ask him if he's glimpsed where the years after his arrival in 1978 have disappeared to.
*
Even if I knew where our past married years have gone, I imagine they're rather dusty and wrinkled with age. Focusing on the here and now, I am proud to say that our present relationship has grown to be more wonderful than I ever dreamed it could be.

This evening, we'll go to Houlihan's in Lake Geneva for dinner. We'll laugh and talk and enjoy each other's company as we've been blessed to do for over four decades.

41 years is a great accomplishment!!!! So many couples don't have the guts to stick together so long and give up so easily. Congratulations Shaddy, you are a wonderful example to follow!!! I wish you many more beautiful years to come :)

Take it from an elder with 20/20 hindsight: marriage is what YOU make of it. Wish I'd known that little piece of wisdom a long time ago. I hear younger folks complain about this or that in their relationships and I want to tell them to ask their spouses if this is how they want their relationship to be, and if not, then work on making it what they want it to be. As I said, 20/20 hindsight. Congrats to the both of you, Shaddy and Lon. To still enjoy each others company after 41 years is a testament to doing something wonderful.

CHEERIFIC: I have to give Lon tons of credit for sticking with me through thick and thin. All of our years weren't pretty, but Lon's patience and uncrushable love and devotion conquered all and prevailed throughout.

I appreciate your kind words.

GULLY: Lon has always been the wind beneath my wings. Fortunately, I've matured since we married so that I can reciprocate by lifting him when he falters as we do this thing called life.

Congratulations Lon and Shaddy! That is a wonderful tribute to your dedication to each other and to your relationship. May you have many many more years together.
It took me two tries to get it right, but I'm pretty lucky too!

Oh I love this Shaddy. Congratulations to both of you! I love that you two are the best of friends and so in love. It's the perfect marriage. I hope your celebration dinner at Houlihan's is perfect (and that you're home before the storms hit).
Love,
Sarie

Isn’t it amazing how the years zip by? Forty-one years and still happy together; now that is quite an accomplishment! I think the lovely strawberry shortcake you make for him may be part of the key to your success. :)
Congratulations and Happy Anniversary!

Happy Anniversary, Shaddy. You are an amazing woman, with an amazing life, and after 41 years of marriage, you must also be an amazing wife.

The hubs and I will have to make it into our 80's to see forty years, but if we live that long I know we'll make it.

Looking forward and looking back are both awesome places to be when your in love with the right person.

PARROT: Thank you. I'm happy to know you're in a wonderful relationship and feeling lucky for it.

SARIE: Your enthusiasm is amazing. We did have a great time at Houlihan's and were home before the weather got ugly. Fortunately, the really bad storms missed us.

JANA: Thank you. I think you hit our success right on the head: Unlimited strawberry shortcake on Father's Day keeps Lon hanging in there for the other 364 days!

DARKSCULPTURES: Thanks for all of your kind comments. Lon thinks I'm a great wife but I consider myself to be the lucky one.
