Bound & Determined

Last week I stopped at Staples to check out the binding options for the loose pages of my "novel" written during last year's National Novel Writing Month.  I was astonished to learn that I can have it bound with a coil binding with a clear plastic top sheet and a protective back page for $3.49.

I rented an armored car this afternoon and hauled the results of my blood, sweat and tears during last year's NaNoWriMo to Staples.  Am I overly protective?  I slinked into the Print and Copy Center, slipped the loose pages and a note with my binding request to the professional and within fifteen minutes was back inside the secure vehicle with NaNoWriMo by Shaddy looking pretty and quite novel if I do say so myself.

My 2009 novel is bound and I am determined.  I'm determined to write another 50,000 words this year in the November 2010 challenge.

P.S.  I created the title page on a design-a-cover website.  The stars represent the imaginary part of my book while the tree reflects the true-to- life, realistic conclusion.

I. Love. It. How sappy am I that this gives me goosebumps to see it bound like this? I am just thrilled that you did this Shaddy, and that cover. That cover!!! I love it. I am busting with pride right now, cuz I can say I knew you before you became a famous writer :)

Bravo! Bravo!

Yeah, Shaddy! Way to go and what an inspiration for this November! I love the cover design!!
I'm slowly getting myself organized, but have NO IDEA how I will do.

Glad you had your book bound. What a deal! Your cover looks really cool too! Good luck writing your next book! :) Keep us updated.

SARIE: It scares me to see it bound like that! What if someone asks to read it??

PARROT: I should read it now that the pages won't scatter all over the place. I'm not sure what's on all those pages. Really, it's been a while since I've stuck my nose in it.

Not knowing about how we'll do during NaNoWriMo is part of the challenge. You'll probably do better than you expect!!

LOL Shaddy, let them read it! I know you aren't so comfortable with that idea, which is why I have restrained myself from asking :)

I bet it's wonderful dear. Like all the words you put to paper and screen. And this year's will be even better!! So exciting...

STEPHANIE: If I remember correctly, I can have it bound like a genuine hard cover book for $10.99 at Staples.

The coil binding is fine for now. I'll have to edit it another hundred times before I proceed further. I have to approach this gradually, if you know what I mean.

SARIE: I'll print out another copy or two one of these days. I'll get them coil-bound and send one to you. I hate following writing rules thus my "novel" is...well, I'll describe it as unique and that's being generous.

This is so funny! And good for you! I'm envisioning you in your armored rent-a-tank right now.

I love your post title as well.

NATASHA: "This is so funny" are my favorite words. Thank you, thank you.

WOW!!! What a testament to your hard work!!! And you are going to do it again!!!!!!!!! You are an inspiration for sure :) I LOVE the cover! Are there any ideas floating around about what you will write for this year's competition or are you just going to go with the flow?

ANNIE: I haven't come up with a definite idea yet. I'm working at it but my brain is like a trunk full of rocks. It's stuck in one place and I can't budge it!!!

SARIE: I'll print it out this evening, get it bound tomorrow and send it your way. I delivered the first bound copy to my aunt and uncle this afternoon. I'm taking care of my biggest fans first!!!!

It's beautiful, Shaddy! I love the stars! What a good idea too. I might check out that design a cover website. I'm no artist so making cover art isn't easy. Thanks for sharing.
