Two Thumbs Up From Shaddy

I found The Postmistress to be sad but an excellent book.
It's 1940.  France has fallen, London is being bombed and America hasn't yet joined in the fight.  American radio gal, Frankie Bard, in her dispatches from Europe implores listeners to pay attention.  The Nazi bombing and the Jewish refugees streaming across Europe push Frankie to get the story right in order to wake Americans to action.  She meets people as she too endures the bombing, she records their voices and eventually comes back to America with a letter for a new widow whose husband's death she witnessed.

This one's hard to put down.  Some parts were more graphic than I like yet I give it two thumbs up.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is the first book in Stieg Larsson's trilogy.  The second is The Girl Who Played With Fire and the final installment is The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest.

The first book in the trilogy received these reviews:

USA Today--"Mesmerizing...imagine the movies of Ingmar Bergman crossed with Thomas Harris's novel The Silence of the Lambs."

Fresh Air (NPR)--"A super-smart amalgam of the corporate corruption tale, legal thriller and dysfunctional-family psychological suspense story."

I plan to read the complete trilogy.

If you read any of these books, I'd like to get your opinions.

I added The Postmistress to my reading list at your recommendation. Thanks!

I've read the first two in the Larsson trilogy and I have loved them. They move quick, keep my attention and don't like to put them down. I've really enjoyed them both and look forward to the third book! I've read that the third one is best, but who knows, right?

Thanks for the reviews! Very helpful.

Have a wonderful Monday Shaddy :)
Love,
Sarie

SARIE: You're most welcome, my friend.

Will you please let me know if my sidebar reappears?

Two days of work this week and I'll be off until next Monday! I think I can handle that.

The days are quickly counting down to your birthday!! Yay, yay!

Yay, yay, enjoy Monday.

The sidebar is working! The sidebar is working! Ohhhhh, it's a sign! LOL!

Two days of work? Lucky!! The forecast looks downright spectacular too. I know you'll make it a very productive and fun week.

I have Bob, the pumpkin you sent me, to keep me company this week. I sure do love him. Thanks so much for the thoughtful gift Shaddy. He's a great sidekick :)

SARIE: Thanks for your vote of confidence. Lately, I've been busy but not very productive.

You named your pumpkin...that's cute. I'm glad Bob is behaving himself.

The weather is going to be awesome. Yay!

I just bought the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo but haven't started it yet. Don't tell us what happens in it...

I heard that it was a little hard to get into, but once you do, impossible to put down.

I have picked up, The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo three times and put it back down each. This might be a good selection for me to listen to on audio instead of read. Audio books are great for the treadmill and this is one where I can listen to it and not need to take notes because it is outside my genre.

Postmistress sounds wonderful and sad.

You've changed your blog since the last time I was here. It looks fabulous!

I haven't read either of these, but The Postmistress sounds right up my alley. I love WWII history, and I have a special fondness for sad stories.

NATASHA: Some parts were unpleasant but overall it impressed me.

DARKSCULPTURES: Let me know your opinion if you read either or both.

K.M.: Thank you. How could you possibly have time to read with all you do!!??
