Trick-or-Treaters Go Green

A friend of mine, her husband and son came to our house on Sunday evening, Halloween, donned in bright green costumes.  Tim is a tall man so in his Jolly Green Giant costume he was amazingly authentic.  Stephanie was Mrs. Jolly Green Giant and the little guy, Jake, was the cutest pea pod I've ever seen.

Jake's costume was purchased for him by his grandma but Stephanie created Tim's and her own.  I was honestly over joyed when I saw them at our door.  Other than the totally green family's visit, our Halloween evening was rather quiet.  Many of the families in our neighborhood have children who've grown up and moved away.  We're lucky if our doorbell rings a dozen times on Halloween evening .  For several years now, I buy candy that Lon and I like so any remaining won't be left in the pantry to harden and eventually be thrown out.

My personal favorite candy treat is fun-size Three Musketeers.  What's yours?

LENORE: I was thrilled that they stopped by our house. Their visit truly made my day.
Stephanie is very creative. She's not afraid to attempt new projects. I should learn from her!!

Have a splendid weekend and a lovely date.

Haha- I love your title! That was so sweet of you to say such nice things about us! We had a great time visiting :) During the six years I've lived in my house, we have never had a single trick-or-treater :( So it was a lot more fun this year to actually participate! I bought Snickers and Reese's peanut butter cups just in case, and tried to hide them from Tim but he found them. They're gone now.
Good luck writing! I can't believe you write so much everyday. What an accomplishment! I will look forward to hearing about it :)

STEPHANIE: Your costumes were amazing and a lot of work for you. It made me feel really good that you stopped here.

The writing for NaNoWriMo is harder for me this year than last. That's what I get for trying something totally different. Hopefully I'll learn something more about writing by the time I'm done.

Cute and clever! A real family affair and a great way to introduce their new pea to the neighborhood.

How are you doing with your writing? Looks like you have been adding lots of words in the first 4days. I'm lagging behind. Tomorrow will be a better writing day for me I hope.
Got a facebook response from my last writing instructor when I said I was struggling to write and also get to the other stuff that needed to be done (like laundry, house cleaning and grocery shopping) who said
now you know what professional writers go through every day. "Get used to it."

PARROT: Actually, although I sometimes resent the fact that I have work, laundry, bills, meals, and so on to do besides writing, I'd go nuts if I didn't have reasons to get up from my computer frequently and focus on something else other than my story.

Last year's writing was much easier than this year's. It's my own fault that I'm struggling because I changed direction at the last minute.

I'm keeping up with my daily writing quota but I feel like I'm somewhat lost in the woods, not a good feeling. I have to keep reminding myself that I intended for this to be fun. I'm bound to learn something from this new challenge and that's worth something.

SARIE: Each of the leaves on Tim's costume had to be attached separately--can you imagine doing that!! And on a giant!!

Adorable -- what a sweet family. Living deep in the pine woods as we do (behind a locked gate yet!) if we ever got a trick or treater I think I would actually be scared -- anyway, just in case, I still buy a little bag of Hershey's chocolate kisses with almonds (our favorite).

BETH: That's funny. Being scared by a child hollering, "Trick or treat!" Under the circumstances, it surely would be startling to have anyone on your property, let alone at your door. Even on Halloween night, it would be somewhat unexpected.

On the nearly impossible chance of getting a trick-or-treater, I still can't blame you for stocking up on chocolate kisses. It's always easier to justify buying candy for some other reason than admitting that we just can't do without it.

(I'm getting out of the house for a while. I'm about halfway to my daily word goal already today and need to give my noggin a break. An hour on the elliptical trainer at NorthPointe should do me good. I hope to get ahead this weekend and whenever possible since I'll be having my four brothers plus spouses for dinner on Thanksgiving, breakfast on Friday and dinner on Saturday.

Another walk in the woods today? Remember what it did for you yesterday, my friend.

Happy writing!

Super duper adorable!! But I'll tell you, I don't personally know one grown man (OK, I know one), who would wear that costume. He's got serious guts!!
