Shaddy's Copycat Painting

Renee's painting
This lovely watercolor painting is one of many on the pages of my Living With Intention journal.  The artist is Renee Locks.
My painting
Renee's painting of the pretty blue flowers motivated me to put my own paints to work.

Of course, my acrylic paints couldn't achieve exactly the same effect as the watercolors, but I'm happy with my version.

After I'd painted the flowers and the green leaves, I dipped my brush in water and attempted to duplicate the watercolor look by diluting the edges of the blue flower petals.

I was pleasantly surprised by the thickness and texture of the acrylic paper in my painting pad.  I'd wondered if I'd like painting on paper rather than acrylic board.  The paper held up well even when I used water on my brush.

The best part of my painting was the process.  I had fun.

Oh so pretty! I actually like the brightness of the color in yours better than that journal. There's something about it, if that makes sense. Way to go buddy!! It's so fun seeing your creative side in this way too (not just writing), I must say! Especially when you're so good at it. More please :)

Hope you're warm and safe today honey. What a night! Glad it's over. Love ya!!!

Pretty irises! I love painting--or I should say, I love painting when it goes well. I went from acrylics to oils and didn't fare well in the transition.

I admire anyone who can do water colors well. I never could gain the control over them needed for finer points.

Hope you're safe and warm!

Very cool! Are you snowed in? I've seen some very scary pictures of white stuff from the north.

Stay warm! And paint some more!

Painting pretty flowers is a great way to take your mind off the blowing snow and cold! You did a beautiful job with your rendition. Now you will have to find places to hang your framed works of art! I hope you are faring well in the storms. Pictures on the news look pretty horrible.

SARIE: Thank you. I hope to do some more painting in the near future.

I was safe and warm yesterday although I did go to the office in the morning for a while to reschedule appointments. It was a funny day or I should say unusual, being home on a Wesnesday!!

LINDA: So that's what the flowers are!! I didn't realize they were irises. I'm tempted to try water colors and oils eventually, but will work with the acrylics for a while first.

Thanks for stopping by.

NATASHA: Thanks for the support. Almost everything was closed yesterday. Today we're in good shape again. I hope to work with my acrylic paint again soon.

PARROT: You ladies are so kind and generous with your compliments. Don't we all just love being treated that way!!

It's bright and sunny today but the temps are way down. It was 9 degrees when I went to be bed last night and 9 below when I left the house this morning. It's supposed to warm up into the 20s very soon.

I'm lucky I don't have to travel far to get to work. It's only a couple of miles from home. I have a Chevy Avalanche so that gives me a great advantage as well.

Beautiful. I've always been terrified of even trying to paint. (I guess "too intimidated to try" is more accurate than terrified.) You are our trailblazer.

BETH: If you have ANY desire to paint, I say "Just do it."

A set of inexpensive tools to begin with and an object or scene to copy is all you need.

I like what my Aunt Marcie told me when I told her I had painted the flowers. I was questioning the worth of my artwork and she said, "There's no right or wrong, no good or bad. When you've completed your work, it is what it is."

Good job girl, your flowers are beautiful. I hate painting flowers, I think they may be the hardest thing for me to get to look right. Good job, waiting for your next project.
