Alaska Journal #13: Juneau & On the Verge of An Excursion

We're all looking forward to our arrival in Juneau.

Until then, there is much to see.  Have you seen enough of mountains, water, sky and clouds yet?  I apologize if you have.  I can't seem to get enough.  I'm definitely getting my money's worth of scenery!!
,
Well, look at that.  Something new and different!!  Isn't it swell!

I'm assuming that the trees got tired of climbing up the steep slope and decided to hang out near the water.

I don't think they liked me implying that they weren't tough enough to climb the slope.  They're standing tall, braced for a showdown with me.

Juneau that's our next port stop of Juneau?

To heck with Juneau.  Look as this!!

Hey, hey, another new sight!  A person can't blink up here or you'll miss something exceptional or otherwise.

I shouldn't have said "to heck with Juneau."  She looks pretty nestled below the mountains.  Starting now, I'll try to be nice.

Do I pay attention to Juneau or to the green mountainside?  I'm torn between the two.

Funny, the water looks green.

Look Dick.

Look, Jane.

Dick and Jane see Spot run across the water to Juneau.  Good grief, I'm going bananas!!

Lon with his camera and Alice one balcony from ours, they're ready to roll.

Trams carried passengers to the top of one of the mountains for a spectacular view.  Lynnette and Alice rode one of these later in the day in Juneau.

This fellow was working from this scaffolding on a docked ship that we passed on our way to "park."

It's a long way down.  They're preparing to anchor us to the dock.

Several of these ropes held the ship to the dock.  It was interesting to see how it was accomplished.

Ketchikan had its unique look and now I'm seeing Juneau's "front yard."

Buses are lined up waiting to take cruise passengers on prebooked excursions.

We (Lynnette and Alice, Lon and I) disembarked from the cruise ship and hopped on one of them to go on a Whale Watching & Wildlife Quest.

We're on the bus and have arrived at Allen Marine Tours.  We will soon board a specially designed catamaran to navigate Southeast Alaska's passages.  The third generation of Allen's runs Allen Marine Tours in vessels built in nearby Sitka's shipyard.

We're hoping to see as many of the following as luck will have it today:  Humpback Whale, Orca Whale, Steller Sea Lion, Dall's Porpoise, Harbor Seal, Sitka Black-Tailed Deer, sea Birds and shore Birds and Bald Eagles.

Come back tomorrow to see how our luck ran.

Oh, man. Not even a teaser photo of wildlife? Looks like it wasn't pouring down rain. That's unusual for Juneau. Thank your lucky stars.

Hope you made it to the Red Dog Saloon.

Hang on to your britches, Gully!! I'm going through my photos as you suggested, in chronological order. I planned on passing over a goodly number of my photos when I posted them to my blog, but I just can't do it. Thus, it is taking a while to get to the more exciting stuff. I'm amazed with myself for taking my time!!! Patience must come with age.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. Taking things in chronological order takes patience--on the part of the readers, too.

The third-photo-down-from-the-top is a VERY OLD DOCK .. now-you-know why your windows are clear of the water spray they get during transit .. some lad hangs down off a platform and cleans them .. of course with your balcony yours may not get misty.

Patti worked in Juneau for the state legislature .. and I visited there several times .. can't wait for more photos ..

Much Joy from Cap and from Patti ..
