Alaska Journal #21: Thursday Evening & Friday Morning in Glacier Bay

We left the train and walked back to the cruise ship.

This verse on the stone wall facing the ship is cute.
We're almost "home."

Dinner at 6:00 with Debbie, Donna, Lynnette and Alice at dock in Skagway.  The ship left the dock that evening and navigated toward Glacier Bay where we would spend the following day on board viewing the glacial beauty.
After dinner, we returned to find a monkey "hanging" in our stateroom.

It's now 6:00 Friday morning.  Lon ordered coffee from room service and we enjoyed some quiet moments on the balcony.

We're sailing toward Glacier Bay and should arrive in an hour.

The Sea View Pool area at the back of the ship.

Views in Glacier Bay.

We traveled into Tarr Inlet to Grand Pacific and Margarie Glaciers.

Born from the ice, the remarkable thing about Glacier Bay is this:  when Captain Vancouver passed in 1794, there was no bay, just ice.  By the time the next white man, John Muir, in 1879, saw it, the ice had retreated almost 30 miles! (From The Alaska Cruise Explorer by Joe Upton)

These photos of the glaciers were taken between 9:00AM and 11:00AM.

Come back to see the final views of Glacier Bay.

Is that 9 and 11 AM or PM? You could not have had better weather for Glacier Bay. Flat seas and bright sun. Doesn't get any better. You've now been somewhere in Alaska that I haven't been.

What-on-earth is happening here ? In each and in every single post that you show a photo of the cruise liner .. said cruise liner continues to get LARGER AND LARGER AND LARGER ! It looks enormous up at the top above .. and you have shown many photos of it. Do horizontal stripes make one look fat ? Does the angle of the photos make it look larger ?

I keep loving the 'towel animals' .. wonderful .. YES it is work to write documentary about photos but keep up the good work. Smiles from you-know-who .. Cap and Patti ..

CAP & PATTI: You're right; horizontal stripes DO make a person look fatter than vertical. Perhaps that fact and the angle of my photos is the reason the ship seems to be growing!!
