Beer Journal #12: Gray's Brewing Company in Janesville, Wisconsin (Close to My Home)

I opened a bottle of Busted Knuckle Irish style ale, 5.2% alcohol/volume, this afternoon. I was pleasantly surprised to read on the label that it is brewed in Janesville, Wisconsin, thirteen miles north of where I live, here in Beloit. Gray's Brewing Company, is a family owned business which has been operating for 156 years.

Handcrafted beers and soft-drinks have been brewed and bottled right here, close to the Wisconsin/Illinois state line, and I had no clue of the brewery's existence until today.

On Gray Brewery's website, I learned that unfortunately, on-site tours have been cancelled indefinitely. I'm still excited to know that a wide variety of beer types are made very close to home.

Honey Ale, Oatmeal Stout, Bully Porter, Rock Hard Red, Busted Knuckle, Rathskeller and Wisco Wheat are their current brews.

Their gourmet sodas include Root Beer, Diet Root Beer, Grape Soda, Orange Cream Soda, Cream Soda, Strawberry Soda and Orange Soda.

I've heard it told that what I don't know won't hurt me. That may be the case but knowing about Gray's Brewery is pretty darn important in light of my hobby. Right?
