The First Novel on My Bookshelf

**************I received the book Anne of Green Gables as a Christmas gift from my second cousin and her husband when I was eight years old.
*
I cherish it because it given to me by Marilyn and Dick and also because it was the first novel I ever owned.
*
Reading Anne of Green Gables was exactly what I needed at that age and yet I enjoy it more everytime I open the cover and step into Anne's world.
*
Do you have a book that meant a lot to you when you were growing up?

Auntie congratulates you, you did it with 8 days to spare. I would bet not too many do that. Now you can relax and enjoy your Thanksgiving.
Have a great Thanksgiving!!!

Lenore: It's hard to know what to keep and what to give away or sell. Let's hope your childhood books are in good hands. Have a great upcoming week.

Auntie: Thank you. I didn't expect to be at the 50,000 word count goal this soon. I hoped to be done by Tuesday afternoon. I started writing at 8:30 this morning and unexpectedly wrote steadily until 12:45. At that exact minute, I reached 50,000 words in the middle of a sentence. I had to write 600 more words to wrap my novel up and top it off with a bright red bow.

Like you said, now I can relax and think about our upcoming trip and Thanksgiving. You have a great Thanksgiving too, Babe. Please pass my wishes to the rest of your family.

Wow, you know I can't remember that first special novel in my life. Isn't that sad.

I could name a number of books that are important to me, but I just can't seem to remember that very first one.

How very special that you not only remember yours, but that you still own it.

Congratulations again on making it to 50K and finishing your novel. I still have five and a half chapters to complete on my outline. I know it keeps growing. LOL

I see you found your wordcount widget!

darksculptures: I don't remember a lot of things from my childhood, but fortunately, I've hung on to this book.

Thank you for passing me the winner's word count widget. I'll wait until the 25th for my official word count verification.

First Congratulations on reaching 50,000!

I don't have any of my childhood books either. I think most of them were just loved to death. LOL "Charlotte's Web" was the first book I remember adoring as a child. I reread it a lot.

Mary Anne: Thank you, it was quite a ride!

Nice badge! Did you have a margarita to celebrate?

Cheryl Peters said...

dayner: No, I didn't have a margarita. When I hit the 50,000th word, I stopped mid-sentence, jumped up and went hunting for my husband. When I found him, I didn't say a word. I sort of did what football players do when they make a touchdown. I strutted and acted like I was something else, cuz, ya know, I am.

Whud y'all dew ta get down when y'all hit da big 50,000?

Congratulations on being officially nuts!!!! WOOT!!

I LOVED Anne of Green Gables -- all of the Anne books!! And you made me think of memory of how I got some of the books -- so THANK YOU. And going to P.E.I. as an adult and wandering where Anne wandered.

I also loved -- as I'm sure you can guess from my web site -- Nancy Drew. and Trixie Belden. and the Hardy Boys (but they weren't as cool as Nancy, Bess, George.) And I loved Dancing Shoes and the other "Shoes" books.

Another of my favorite books was No Children, No Pets.

Okay, time to celebrate Shaddy's victory with a glass of wine....

Cheryl Peters said...

Natasha: We need to celebrate both of our victories, my friend. It's been great fun running the race with, well not with, but behind you.

It's rumored that the final finisher will undoubtedly be a really big fellow who goes by the name, NaNoRhiNo. He's really hard on laptops. All the mud and slop gets down between the keys and makes a real mess.

Hi Shaddy, It was nice to find your comment on my blog. I am very impressed that you are writing a 5,000 page novel..amazing! I admire those who have literary talent as I am a book lover. My memory of my first book, and one that has stayed with me to this day, is a book i found in my elementary school library. Sadly I can not remember the title...but it was about a little girl who explored her grandmothers attic. She would play paper dolls and dress up in the attic. She referred to the house as "The Pink Maple House." I often check the antique shops to see if by chance I would run across it. You have a wonderful blog Shaddy...I really enjoyed you showing the Shops you visited in Wisconsin and Michigan. I have put them on my list as places to visit. You will find me as a regular visitor. :-) Dee

Dee: Thank you for stopping here to visit.

Yesterday, I reached my writing goal of 50,000 words. I hope I don't get it in my head that I want to write a 5,000-page novel. If that happens, please talk me out of it!

I hope you'll someday run across the book you mentioned. How nice that would be!

I'm glad you're enjoying my blog.

Congrats on NaNoWriMo, Shaddy. You now have a book length manuscript to play with. See? You CAN do it.

Cheryl Peters said...

Gully: Thanks! After a few days, I'll go back and read my 50,000 plus words. That'll be interesting, no doubt. Not having time to give a lot of thought to what I wrote as I was writing, I imagine a good share of it will be somewhat unfamiliar, like reading someone else's work.

Dee said...

Shaddy, LOL. Come to thank of it, it would be quite the novel, and how would you even get it off your desk? Congrats on reaching your goal of 50,000 words! That is an equally amazing accomplishment.

Cheryl Peters said...

Dee: I'd have to put wheels on it and pull it around!
