Siesta Key Spring 2015: Journal #1 (3/16)

Lon, Jared and I flew from Milwaukee to Tampa, picked up our rental car and drove south to Siesta Key, our favorite place in the world.

To get across Tampa Bay, we took the breathtaking Sunshine Skyway Bridge. The moment I spot the bridge, I feel officially "on vacation."

These first four photos are not mine. I "borrowed" them from a trip adviser website.

The Sunshine Skyway Bridge with a cable-stayed main span is 4.1 miles long.

I never tire of palm trees. I took this photo before we crossed the bridge. These photos aren't in consecutive order. Please bear with me. When I added the photos that I didn't take, they didn't behave or go where I intended them to be.

Taking photos from the back seat of a moving car can be tricky but I managed to capture a few. This is part of the Sunshine Skyway Fishing Pier, the world's longest fishing pier. It runs parallel to the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.

I snapped this as we approached the highest part of the skyway.

This is another borrowed photo.
The beauty of these cables in this photo (mine) is astounding.

This is a borrowed photo of the bridge taken from the fishing pier. We have never stopped to fish here. We're either anxious to get to the condo or focusing on getting to the airport to fly home.

I got this one of the fishing pier.

We love our GPS. I can't imagine life without one.

After dropping off our luggage at the condo, we chose Captain Curt's for dinner, only a hop, a skip, and a jump down Midnight Pass Road.

This photo tells it all.

Cheers!

On a re-visit to this Post I clearly see in hindsight you landed in Tampa .. a city I know well .. and drove south NOT to the Keys but down the Gulf side of Florida. Fun to see these posts of your trip.
