Tuesday's Birds

I got the cold shoulder from this finch!

...in a pensive mood.

...blushing?

I know this is a finch by the streaks on its breast.

Hey, what kind of bird are you?

Squirrels can't get to our bird seed but they can nibble on the suet cakes.

What's so interesting over there, fella?

I love woodpeckers.

...nice smile...

Oh sure, your profile is swell too.

Dang, I hate when that happens!

Trust me.  This one's not getting away!

Don't Sweat Sorrow. Embrace It.

Sorrow is how we learn to love. Your heart isn't breaking. It hurts because it's getting larger. The larger it gets, the more love it holds.

Meet Abby and Emma. They're Dolls.

Meet my great-niece, Emma Doll...

...and my great-niece, Abby Doll.

My brother Carl Doll is their grandpa; my nephew Ryan Doll is their father.

They're all "living dolls."

Goodreads Quote of the Day

To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never to forget.

Arundhati Roy

The author of The God of Small Things was born on this day in 1961.

Camera Shy Junco & An Awesome Birdbook

I've been seeing Juncos in our backyard for several weeks.  Every time I grab my camera to photograph one, it flies away.  So until I get lucky, here's what it looks like in my Birds of Wisconsin field guide.

Happy Day!  Lon and I received this beautiful book in the mail today, a gift from Lynnette and Alice.  I've looked through it briefly and I'm so excited about the treasures on each and every page.  It's going to be on one table or another always so we can search through it over and over again.

The beautiful thing about poring over bird books is that the bird images stay put, unlike those feeding outside my window.
