After the Hike

After our hike on Sunday afternoon, Lon and I stopped at the LaGrange General Store for a sandwich. Only a mile from the Nordic Trail trailhead, this unique and old-fashioned store is always part of our hiking experience.

The store appears to have been a house which morphed into a place for hikers, cross-country skiers, bikers and others to pause for a light meal, a snack, a bottle of wine, beer or soda or to leisurely browse amongst the many gift items awaiting purchase on old and worn wood shelves.

Lon's good and hungry and wastes no time crossing the porch to the front door.

We claimed this table for lunch and a root beer.

We shared this generously prepared ham sandwich and chips. I would have made a more exciting choice but since we were sharing, I let Lon choose. I must say it hit the spot and made me forget that I'd been dropped earlier in the day. :)

Several bikes are available for purchase and others can be rented for the day.

Notice the eye-catching shopping bags constructed of a shiny vinyl material.

A wide and unusual variety of ales filled this section of the coolers.

Sometimes I order a side dish of potato salad from the deli. Oops! I had a close up photo of the deli posted here a second ago but it's suddenly vanished. I swear, one wrong move and they're gone. If I reload it, it will appear at the top of the blog. You can't imagine what I have to go through if a picture I absolutely must have on my blog suddenly disappears. It makes me crazy!!

Squeeze me, Stomp Me, Make Me Wine!!! I got a kick out of that sign.

All's well after all. See the deli? It's on the left in this view of the store.

That's about it, folks.

By the way, do you enjoy shopping in old-fashioned stores like this as much as I do?

Looks like a wonderful place to relax and recharge from your hike. I love little "finds" like these.
They know just what to carry. Love the "whine" display! Dropped, yikes - really???

Why yes I do enjoy shopping in these old fashioned stores. This one looks like my kind of place. Love the wine sign too! And even at 11 at night, the picture of that sandwich makes me hungry!

What a great day you two had...

Sarie

PARROT: Fear not. To spice up my "Take a Hike" post I made up a scenario in which I asked Lon to carry me because I was too tired to walk any further. Then I finished my fabrication by accusing Lon of dropping me when we had reached the 3 mile mark. (He wouldn't do that even if I deserved it).

SARIE: I had a feeling you'd enjoy browsing through a quaint store such as this one.

Enjoy the cooler weather we're getting, although we've had more of a drop in temps than necessary. I'm a hard one to please!

AUNTIE: Outings which provide exercise AND entertainment simultaneously please me greatly. The trails and this store are a few miles beyond Whitewater.

If I don't get lazy, we'll be returning to hike and browse the store again soon.

Let's start celebrating Labor Day right now, should we? We'll ban anything laborious from our schedules, sit back and pretend we're queen for two days. Are you game?
