Labor Day Weekend

Trust me.   I won't be doing any of this stuff during this long weekend.  No way!

HAPPY LABOR DAY TO ALL OF YOU!

Humorous Flash Fiction On Newman's Own Salad Dressing Label

Here are my two favorite salad dressings.  Unexpectedly, the labels on the reverse side of these bottles sport this delightful sample of funny, flash fiction:

The Great Salad Dressing Balloon Race.

An armada of balloons loaded with Light Cranberry.  The starters gun - Bazoombah!  They all rise majestically into the air.  Newman's Own Balloon, with fewer calories, more taste, and secretly propelled by charity, flies faster than Kraft and further than Wishbone.  First across.  First on the ground.  El Piloto quaffs mucho quaffs of Newman's Own Lite Cranberry in victory.  A medium light Italian starlet, daughter of Butch Cassadini, named Bitsey Cassidini, leaps into the balloon basket, kisses Piloto, her lips smeared with Newman's Own Lite, she murmurs, "You taste of Sicily, of Besuvius, of Naples, baby", and patting his fanny she whispers, "and no fat."

That's not all that's unexpected regarding Paul Newman's Own.  His Own Foundation has given over $300 million to thousands of charities since 1982.  Newman's Own Foundation continues Paul Newman's commitment to donate all royalties and after tax profits from this product for educational and charitable purposes.

Pretty cool, huh?

Let Me Tell You 'Bout...

...the birds...

...and the bees...

...and the flowers...

...and the trees...

...and the moon up above...

...and a thing called "love."

Peters' Bird Spa and Deli

"I'm really getting stuffed.  What I need now is a nice cool bath."

"I'll just stick my face in."

"Gosh.  This is so refreshing."

"Excuse me, ma'am.  Love your resort.  Could I bother you for a towel?"

This Evening's Blue Moon

A blue moon.

When I answered the phone about half an hour ago, it was our neighbor, Bill.  He told me about the "blue moon" that was in the night sky this evening.

Lon and I met Bill in the road and we all looked at the moon with his binoculars.  I went back in the house, got my camera and took all of the pictures above.  With the naked eye, the moon wasn't this beautiful color.  When I zoomed in with my camera and focused the lens, this is the color that I saw and the camera processed.

On The Weather Channel website, I read this:  Though blue moons happen more often than "once in a blue moon," enjoy tonight; the next seasonal one isn't until May 21st, 2016.

What an exciting way to cap off this beautiful summer day!

Thanks, Bill.

P.S.  Per Wikipedia:  A blue moon is an extra full moon that appears in a subdivision of a year, either the third of four full moons in a season or, recently, a second full moon in a month of the common calendar. Metaphorically, a "blue moon" is a rare event, as in the expression "Once in a blue moon."

The phrase has nothing to do with the actual color of the moon, although a literal "blue moon" (the moon appearing with a tinge of blue) may occur in certain atmospheric conditions; e.g., when volcanic eruptions or exceptionally large fires leave particles in the atmosphere.

Justin and Brittany's Wedding Celebration

Aren't they an awesome couple?  I'll answer my own question:  Indeed, they are!!

Why did Uncle Lon and Aunt Cheryl have to step in and ruin what could have been another fine photo?  I'll answer that too:  It's a relative thing!!

Lon and I love his sister, Jill.  She's living so far away in Georgia that we don't see her very often.

Many years ago, Jill and I joked about getting older.  We gave ourselves the old-fashioned names of Gurt and Murt when we anticipated the days far in the future when we'd still be laughing our heads off in side by side rocking chairs.

We're getting closer to those days.  Even now, when we're together or playing WORDS WITH FRIENDS, we practice being silly.  We can't allow ourselves to get rusty in that department!!

Our niece, Tamara, and her husband, Brian, were all smiles when we shared the latest news in our lives.  See their beverage jars?  All guests were encouraged to take theirs home as a wedding celebration momento.  I love mine.

My cousin, Lynnette, was visiting Lon and I on the same weekend as this party.  Allison very graciously invited Lynnette to come with us to the party.  Here, Lynnette and Jill are chatting.

Note the collection of photos on display.

I should have taken many more photos.  I regret that I didn't so I'm going to request a rerun of the party.  I promise to do better next time!!

Enjoying Time With Lynnette and Alice

Here we are at Popeye's, of course!!  These three smiling faces are Alice, me and Lynnette.

Lon and I truly enjoy Lynnette (my cousin) and Alice's regular summer visits.  They come to see us from Buckeye Lake in Ohio.

I miss them already, but we'll keep in touch by playing "Words With Friends" every day.

A Bit of Trivial Trivia Regarding Birds and Sports

I found an interesting "Bird Brain" entry in my BIRD WATCHER'S BIBLE.

For the love of birds, popular sports teams have been named.

Do I Really Have To Eat Them Soon?

This is one of my tomatoes last Monday.

And here's another photo of another tomato taken Monday.

Today, Friday, they look like this!

Two fellows on the opposite side of my garden are jumping on the band wagon.

The predominant color in my garden is quickly shifting from a lovely pale green to a vibrant tomato red.  I discovered today that my writer friend, Beth, shares my hesitancy to eat the veggie babies we have nurtured from seeds.  (We know we're nutty!)  If my garden was larger, I don't think I'd be so attached to my cucumbers, sweet peppers and tomatoes.
